Personal Response 3 : Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) is caused by the Coxsackie virus and Enterovirus 71. The throat and tonsils develop small ulcers while the hands, feet, and diaper area are affected by a rash with characteristic vesicles (very small blisters). This is usually a mild illness with the rash healing in 5 to 7 days. We can tell that our friends have HFMD by seeing the following symptoms:
1)fever
2)sore throat
3)ulcers in the throat, mouth and tongue
4)headache
5) a rash with vesicles (small blisters, 3-7 mm) on hands, feet and diaper area. The
vesicles are typically on the palm side of the hands the sole side of the feet and very
charateristics in appearance
6)loss of appetite

It is not true that HFMD only occurs among young children below five years, adults can also be affected but children under five years are particulary susceptible. We should tell our parents if we have any symptoms of HFMD so that they can bring us to the doctor.I do not know anyone who contracted this disease. They should stay away from school, stay away from public places like restaurants, playgrounds and shopping centres.I would advise them to wash their hands before eating any food.

Reflection 3: Friendship

Friendship means you and your friends are together forever. It is important to have friends because if you do not have friends you will not have anyone to play with you and no one to cheer you up when you are sad.I can develop friendship like sharing games or whatever with your friends.I think it is important for Singaporeans to be friendly with people of other countries because they can develop friendship from each other and they learn about other customs from other country.I enjoy the activities during our school International Friendship Day.I enjoy the Teakwando activity because it teaches us how to defense ourselves.I think they should put up some archery activities.

Reflection Responese 2 :Courtesy

Courtesy means to be courteous to anyone that you came across with and even with strangers. We must be courteous when we are at young age.The fable''Kong Rong Rang Li'' impressed me the most because Kong Rong took the smallest pear instead of the biggest pear because he has the courtesy to let his brothers and sisters have the pear.Almost half of the class is courteous i think.

Reflection 2: My Dream

My dream is to collect every limited edition and rare game cards.I can make a album of all the cards that i've collected for everyone to browse through it.I plan to pass it from one generation to another.I'm saving up money to buy all those cards.I think people should have dreams as they can have something they really wanted to have.

Personal Response:Racial Harmony

I think 'racial harmony' is a festival that many races celebrate. Many different races in the past always gets into fights just because they are different races.I think Rajah's solution is good because if there are no different races, they will not get in fights. We can encourage them by doing work together or having some conversations among themselves. Our school should organise an event for different races that they can take part in.

Trip to Bukit Chandu and Old Ford factory

Old Ford Factory-The Japanese Occupation forever changed people's outlook on the future of their country and its impact lasts to this present day. The memories and reflections of the hardships faced by those who lived through the darkest years of Singapore's modern history have been captured befittingly at the old Ford Motor Factory, site of the British surrender now preserved by the National Archives of Singapore as a permanent exhibition gallery – Memories at Old Ford Factory.

Bukit Chandu-
"When war broke out in the Far East, the Regiment was in process of expansion .... In consequence..like many other units of our Imperial Force, (it) was not fully prepared for the ordeal which it was to face. Nevertheless, these young and untried soldiers acquitted themselves in a way which bore comparison with the very best troops in Malaya. In particular, by their stubborn defence of the Pasir Panjang Ridge at the height of the Battle of Singapore, they set an example of steadfastness and endurance which will become a great tradition in the Regiment and an inspiration for future generations."

Major-General A.E. Percival From Foreword of 'The Malay Regiment 1933-1947' Written by Mubin C. Sheppard, first published in 1947

Total Defence Day

15th February is Total Defence Day. On this day in 1942, Singapore fell to the Japanese. Total Defence Day is commemorated every year on this date to remind Singapore of World War II and the key lessons learnt about defence:

Singapore is defensible and is worth defending.

We must ourselves defend Singapore. We cannot rely on others to defend our country.
